Rooted in Purpose: Spacewell’s Ghaf Tree Planting Initiative
As we introduced a new chapter for Spacewell through our rebranding, it was important for us that the launch was not only about how we look, but about what we stand for. And as part of our rebranding launch initiative, the Spacewell team came together to plant 40 Ghaf saplings at the International Center for Biosaline Agriculture. It was a simple act, but one grounded in intention.
Why the Ghaf tree
When planning this initiative, it was important for us to choose something meaningful to the UAE and relevant to how we think about design and the built environment. The Ghaf tree was a natural choice. Declared the UAE’s national tree in 2008, the Ghaf is known for its strength, adaptability, and long life in challenging conditions. These qualities reflect principles we value in interior architecture and design build.
- Built for long term impact: The Ghaf grows steadily and survives with limited resources. This reflects our focus on designing and building spaces that remain functional and relevant over time. 2
- Considered use of resources: The Ghaf requires minimal water and care, highlighting the importance of responsible choices an approach we apply when selecting materials and planning construction.
- Strong connection to place As a company working in the UAE, choosing the national tree reflects respect for the local environment and context where we design and build. Through this initiative, we are linking sustainability to our industry in a clear and practical way, rooted in long term thinking rather than short term gestures.
Responsibility Beyond Interiors
Interior architecture often focuses on what happens inside a space, but every interior is part of a larger environmental system. Materials, energy use, and construction methods all have lasting effects beyond the building itself. This initiative reflects our understanding that designing interiors carries responsibility.

Creating workspaces that perform well for people must also be balanced with awareness of the natural resources that support those spaces. Planting Ghaf trees is a way of recognising that connection and acting on it in a practical way.
Why this matter to our industry
The interiors and fit out industry influences how resources are used, how long spaces last, and how frequently they need to be adapted or rebuilt. Thoughtful design and careful execution reduce waste, extend building life cycles, and create environments that remain relevant over time. By planting Ghaf trees, we are acknowledging that sustainability is not only about project specifications or certifications. It is about long term thinking and taking responsibility for the wider impact of our work.
A collective effort
This was not a symbolic gesture carried out on behalf of the team. Our people were directly involved in planting the saplings, making the initiative tangible and personal. It reinforced the idea that responsibility is shared and that meaningful change comes from consistent actions.

As Spacewell continues to grow, initiatives like this remain part of how we define progress. Our focus in interior architecture is to create spaces that last, serve people well, and respond thoughtfully to their context. Planting Ghaf trees reflects that mindset. It is a long term investment in the environment we design within and a reminder that the spaces we create today shape the world we leave behind.
